Austin Marriott Downtown

A learning academy for licensed behavioral health clinicians ready to build their own practice

What is Pathways to Independent Practice

Launching an independent behavioral health practice is an exciting and empowering endeavor. It can also be a scary one! It requires a clear vision, practical business knowledge, trusted guidance, and a strong support system – things that aren’t taught in clinical coursework.

Pathways to Independent Practice is designed for behavioral health clinicians serving tribal communities who have made the decision to pursue independent practice and are ready to take action. By the end of this two-day learning academy, participants will have the knowledge, confidence, and a plan for concrete next steps that will take you closer to your independent practice goals.

What Makes This Opportunity Unique

Pathways to Independent Practice is not just a learning academy. It is an experience.  At 7 Generations, we prioritize culturally-grounded engagement and relationship-building. The event will not only offer practical knowledge through educational workshops, but also an opportunity to:

  • Build connections with peers who are navigating a similar path
  • Seek guidance from experienced tribal practitioners who will serve as on-site mentors
  • Clarify and develop a 90-day plan to maintain momentum after you leave.

With this level of intimate and customized support, we hope Pathways to Independent Practice will serve as the catalyst many clinicians need to take the leap toward their independent practice goals!

What to Expect

Over two days, participants will explore the foundational decisions and practical considerations involved in launching an independent behavioral health practice.

Topics may include:

  • Business formation and administrative setup
  • Financial planning, pricing, and sustainability
  • Billing, insurance, credentialing, and documentation
  • Marketing, messaging, referrals, and client development
  • Risk management and operational readiness
  • Lessons learned from experienced practice owners
  • Planning concrete next steps to take toward building your business

Session details and speakers will be announced soon.

Individualized Support

One of the most valuable parts of the academy is the opportunity to receive guidance specific to your goals and plans.

Participants will have dedicated time to ask questions, talk through barriers, and receive feedback from experienced practice owners and subject matter experts. These conversations are designed to help participants identify practical next steps and move forward with greater confidence.

What You’ll Leave With

Participants can expect to leave with:

  • A clearer vision for their independent practice
  • A practical launch roadmap
  • Greater understanding of key business and operational considerations
  • Individualized guidance from experienced mentors
  • Connections with peers on a similar path
  • Concrete next steps for the next phase of your transition

Why This Matters

Independent practice can expand access to culturally responsive care, strengthen communities, and create new opportunities for tribal behavioral health leadership.

By supporting clinicians at this pivotal stage, Pathways to Independent Practice invests not only in individual practice owners, but in the long-term health and well-being of the communities you serve.
