Purpose

The 7 Generations Behavioral Health Center of Excellence aims to develop and strengthen behavioral health agencies to better serve and advocate for tribal communities across the United States to improve health outcomes and reduce behavioral health disparities.

What We Do

The 7 Generations Behavioral Health Center of Excellence supports behavioral health professionals to provide culturally responsive, highly effective care for individuals, families and tribal communities through online and in-person training opportunities, community forums, downloadable resources and tailored technical assistance and program support.

We strive to improve futures for families and communities through policy and infrastructure advocacy aimed at improving behavioral health and wellbeing, and promoting flourishing.

Who We Are

The 7 Generations Behavioral Health Center of Excellence is led by the Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW) at the University of Arizona.

We actively collaborate with community partners to develop innovative and dynamic training and technical assistance programs, policy institutes, and leadership academies aimed at improving behavioral health services and systems that serve tribal community members.

SIROW is committed to uplifting the voices of tribal communities. The work of the 7 Generations Behavioral Health Center of Excellence is guided by a National Steering Council and a Healers Circle comprised of tribal behavioral health experts, behavioral health providers, and people with lived expertise. 

Applications for the 7 Generations Behavioral Health Center of Excellence Leadership Academy are now open!

This 9-month program is aimed at supporting tribal leaders, elected officials, and advanced career/senior level directors of behavioral health and/or public health programs in tribal organizations to enhance their strategic skills in building the capacity for behavioral health services by championing the development and implementation of community-driven and holistic care models. Program participants leadership journey will include in-person experiential learning, online/virtual training opportunities, peer-support, and a community-driven capstone project.

Registration fees, travel and lodging expenses are covered, but space is limited, so apply soon to be considered for the 2026 cohort!
